At Newnham Infant and Nursery School we expect all children to wear uniform. We believe this shared identity gives children a sense of belonging and helps them to take pride in the school and in their appearance. Our school colours are maroon, grey and white across the whole school including the Nursery.
A school day is busy and very active so the uniform needs to be comfortable, practical and hardwearing.
It is not compulsory to wear items with the school logo, although we do encourage this. Items with the logo are only available from the office via Friends of Newnham Infant School Association (FONISA) via the order form (which is available on our website) or alternatively on a Wednesday morning between 9:00am and 9:15am on sale in the school dining hall.
Footwear should be sensible and comfortable – the children must be able to put them on without adult assistance (laces only if they can tie their own). Open toed sandals cannot be worn in the summer. Knee high fashion boots are not acceptable for daily wear. Big boots (e.g. knee high, moon or wellies) should not be worn all day – please send in a change of shoes.
As the children spend a lot of time outside, a suitable coat for outdoor play must be provided - please ensure it is warm and ideally waterproof with a hood.
Please can children bring a sun hat to school in warm weather as there is not as much shade in the playground.
In order to take books home, your child requires a suitable bag. These can be purchased from our Uniform Shop.
Children should not wear jewellery for health and safety reasons, particularly in the playground and during PE. If your child has pierced ears small stud earrings are suitable. Bangles, bracelets, rings and necklaces are not appropriate and should not be worn.
Long hair should be securely tied back in order to avoid accidents and for hygiene reasons. Hair bands should be simple and preferable in school colours and not ornately decorated.
