Curriculum

Our Curriculum

At Newnham Infant and Nursery School the curriculum is designed around our belief that each child is unique and should be empowered to be a confident, resilient, independent, inspired, self-motivated, life-long learner. We aim to provide all children an exciting, creative and challenging curriculum, in a bright, stimulating environment.

In September 2020 we began planning changes to the way we taught and delivered our curriculum. Our new rich and varied curriculum provides opportunities to develop skills to be successful in the future, including English (language, reading and writing), Maths, Science and Computing as well as History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Religious Education, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), PE and Music. We weave Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development through our whole curriculum.

Our vibrant and engaging curriculum is designed so that the subject specific knowledge and skills are scaffolded within a cross-curricular theme or context. The themes can last between one to six weeks, depending on the theme and the needs of the children. We believe that children learn best through first hand experiences including practical activities, ‘Wow’ days, local visits and trips, and we also invite visitors into school. This helps to create real experiences for the children and also gives them an understanding of how their skills could be used in real life jobs.
